Visa Services

When travelling to India, foreign citizens must hold a valid visa, which is granted by Indian immigration authorities, check posts and Indian missions abroad. The Embassy of India in Helsinki grants Indian visas in Finland and it has outsourced the visa application procedure to Indo German Consultancy Service.

All visas must be applied through Online Application. Handwritten/typed visa applications are no longer accepted. After applying online, the applicant is requested to submit the printout of online filled application form with pasted colour passport photograph (2" x 2"), passport and all desired documents as per following details to IGCS for issue of visa:

The following documents are required when applying for a visa:

1) filled-in and signed online visa application form with one colour photograph
(Photo-Spec-PDF)

2) valid passport (minimum validity six months at the time of applying)

3) visa fee (
see Visa Fees) in cash or by bank transfer

4) other required documents (see Visa Types)

Filled online visa application form, duly signed by the applicant, can be submitted at IGCS on weekdays ( Monday - Friday) between 8:30 and 12:00 hrs. Applications can also be submitted via mail (please include a registered return envelope with the recipient’s details, postal charges are
5.60€ within Finland and 7.40€ to Estonia). Processed visas can be picked up from the counter between 16:00 and 16:30 hrs. on working days.

Please note: Processing of the visa application can start only when IGCS has received all the required documents and visa fee. Please check carefully which additional documents are needed for each type of visa.

Processing time is 3-4 working days for Finnish and Estonian passport holders when the application is delivered personally to the counter of IGCS. Processing time for applications sent by post is 2-3 weeks.
For all other nationalities the processing time varies. In case of an emergency, an express visa can be delivered in one working day for Finnish and Estonian passport holders.

After leaving India, re-entry with a tourist visa is possible only after a two month gap. However, foreigners holding Tourist Visas who plan to visit another country on account of neighbourhood tourism related travel and re-enter India before finally exiting, may be permitted two or three entries by the Indian Missions/Posts. The Immigration authorities in all the Immigration Check Posts in India may also allow foreign nationals on Tourist Visas to make two or three entries into the country (need based) subject to production of an itinerary and supporting documentation (ticket bookings). Applicants can request permission to re-enter India in relaxation of normal rules by filling out the Request for Re-Entry permit form. The processing fee is 12€.

Tourists visiting restricted areas (e.g. Sikkim, Andaman Islands) are required to apply for a Restricted Area Permit, the processing fee of which is 36€.

Grant of visa does not confer the right of entry to India and is subject to the discretion of the Immigration Authorities.

Please contact IGCS or Embassy of India if you have any questions on visas.
